The city of Indore is adopting Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system as a means to alleviating congestion and providing long-term sustainable transportation solutions to the region. Initial deployment of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) based bus service has been very successful in the city. The city is now is pursuing a full-fledged BRT system. The construction of segregated bus system is currently underway on the AB road corridor as the pilot for full deployment for BRT in the city. The BRT projects are being deployed under the auspices of Indore City Transport Services Ltd (ICTSL), which has been incorporated as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to operate and manage the public transport system in Indore City with Private sector participation.
The grant from the SUTP project will be used to for implementing intelligent technology on the BRT corridors. A detailed project report was prepared and submitted to SUTP. Technologies will include automatic fare collection, public transport signal priority; centralized control center and CCTV based monitoring of the corridor. ICTSL is in the process of hiring a project management consultant (PMC) for project. An expression of interest was issued by ICTSL on December 29th 2008. Over 20 companies sent an expression of interest. 6 Companies were short listed and detailed proposals have been received from each.
