Ethanol blended diesel (e-diesel) in Mysore City

Under the innovative environment initiative Mysore city will soon implement the ethanol blended diesel (e-diesel) project, under the GEF – SUTP project. E-diesel is a cleaner burning alternative to regular diesel for heavy-duty (HD) compression ignition (CI) engines used in buses. The use of alternative fuel such as e-diesel for the fleet of KSRTC buses plying in Mysore region will result in a significant reduction of emissions. The use of renewable fuel (Ethanol) will also help to reduce fossil energy consumption and which will result in energy savings. This project envisages the use of bio-ethanol blends in 750 buses of Mysore Division, and the creation of infrastructure such as underground storage tanks for ethanol, and onsite blending with electronic systems to achieve accurate blending and delivery. The ethanol diesel blend proposed for Mysore city will be the first of its kind in the entire south east Asia region. The proposed cost of this project is Rs 3.57 Crores.

KSRTC will be implementing these projects through established bid processes following the World Bank guidelines for identification and deployment through a system integrator.
